The Captiva Island Historical Society launched its 2021-2022 season on Tuesday evening, November 16 with a history-centric art exhibit "An Artful Look at Captiva History" that displays Captiva’s past as a lure for artists and inspiration for their art.

The Captiva Island Historical Society is pleased fo welcome Captain Brian Holaway to its Board of Directors. Captain Holaway’s knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the Islands make him a robust addition to the hard-working Board of Directors of CIHS.

The ninth in the series of CIHS "Captiva Memories" documentaries, "Big Fish Stories: The History of Angling on Captiva" is in the final stages of production. The documentary will premiere during the 2021-2022 CIHS season.

Dave Jensen championed Captiva history. As a co-founder of the Captiva Island Historical Society, Dave remained an active Director on our Board, even after relocating to Italy. Of all the island organizations, it's natural the CIHS initiate the tribute to Dave and Captiva’s Jensen family.

Monday evening, February 8th, an audience of some 85 people enjoyed a beautiful night in the open-air environment of McCarthy’s Marina to watch the acclaimed documentary film “Queen of Swing,” by Florida filmmaker John Biffar, presented by the Captiva Island Historical Society (CIHS).

On Thursday, December 10th, the Captiva Island Historical Society commemorated the 105-year history of Captiva’s iconic Island Store, as part of the Bailey family reopening ceremony.

About 40 people from the Captiva community took part in the restaging of a history photo in front of Captiva Chapel by the Sea November 22, as the Captiva Island Historical Society hosted “History Repeats Itself.”
